Support Team

Founder, Penny Cunningham

January of 2009 marked twelve years since Penny's sister, Candy, passed away due to cancer.  As Penny reflected over those years, she is very thankful for the many friends that she has made, the many sponsors that have come forward, and the many volunteers that have made our organization strong.  But most of all, she is thankful for all the cancer patients that Candy's Place has been able to help.

With recent changes that have been implemented at the Center so that many more cancer patients can be reached, the mission has not and will not change.  "Our vision helps us focus on the future," said Penny, "and that is to be the leading resource for non-medical cancer support and services to the Wyoming Valley region."

Candy's Place is pleased to roll out our new "rebrand" and marketing strategy through this website.  Our hope is that you will continue to partner with us as we support and care for those who are in the battle of their lives.

 Center Coordinator, Nicole Farber

When Nicole Farber began working with mentally challenged individuals over 10 years ago, her concern for those very special clients led her to pursue a career in nursing.   After spending time as a nurse supervisor at a hospice site for MR patients, she brings that administrative experience, as well as her skill in working with patients and their families, to her role as Center Coordinator at Candy's Place.

Nicole is also a gifted artist, and has developed HappyMail, IncTM, a line of greeting cards that can be found at the Barnes & Noble store on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, many local Christian book stores, and on the web.  She has also volunteered her time with Providing Hope Prison Ministries through the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and as a care counselor for The Hope Center in Trucksville, which provides free medical, legal, pastoral and other resources to area residents.

          Facility Coordinator, Jack Ganz

Jack Ganz, lovingly known as our "Jack of all trades," cares for whatever needs doing at the Center.  From installing new computer systems and hard drives to putting together cabinets and work areas, Jack does it all.  He is exactly what every organization needs to make its facility operate on a daily basis.
Jack has worked in the telecommunications field for over forty years, acquiring him a wide variety of experience which he has generously shared with us, accomplishing the work necessary to keep us well cared for and operational during his many years here.

            Bookkeeper, Martha Tilghman

Martha Tilghman comes to The Center with years of bookkeeping experience.  A retired school librarian from West Side Tech, she has a soft heart for those who are fighting the fight against cancer.  In addition to bookkeeping, Martha also volunteers her Friday mornings as The Center's receptionist.
